Decree No. 2.18.242 aims to update the enforcement mechanisms of Law No. 22.07 on protected areas with regard to how to create protected areas, the procedure for approving their design, management, validity period and how to review them, the procedure for authorizing the management of protected areas to legal persons, how to grant professional cards to management staff who are qualified to prove violations of this law and the provisions adopted to implement it, and the procedures for the classification of national parks that exist when this law is published.
The decree includes five chapters focused on the following topics:

• How to create the protected area;
• Requirements for the design, creation and management of the protected area;
• authorize the management of the protected area;
• The Technical Committee for Protected Areas;
• Various, transitional and final provisions.
