Celebrating the International Day for Biodiversity 2023
A conference entitled “From Agreement to Action” will be organized by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development in collaboration with the PAGE program and the COPERNICEA project to support the implementation of the new Global Biodiversity Framework, in order to catalyze an economic transformation aligned with the goals of sustainable development, on 22 May 2023 according to the following program:
Presentations and interventions (10:00 - 13:00)
- The Global Biodiversity Framework: issues and challenges for Morocco (Mr. Bouzekri RAZI - MTEDD);
- Rebuilding biodiversity through action: how to finance and budget for the action plan of the
- biodiversity for an effective implementation of the goals of the new post-2020 global biodiversity framework? (Claire Potdevin, Tax Policy Expert, UNEP - remote);
- Integration of biodiversity in key economic sectors: example of the BIODEV2030 and POST2O2O programs of Expertise France and AFD (Expertise France);
- Integrating biodiversity: forest sector policy (Mr. Khalid CHERKI, ANEF);
- Integrating biodiversity: maritime and coastal fishing (Ms Fatima Zahra HASSOUNI, DPM);
- Integrating biodiversity: agricultural sector (Mr. Moha Ferrahi, INRA);
- Integrating biodiversity: the mining sector in Morocco (Mohamed Zad, OCP Group);
- Debate session: how to better integrate biodiversity into Morocco's development strategies in the context of the post-2020 GBC? (MTEDD, ANEF, INRA, INRA, DPM, NGOs, OCP).

- Afternoon session (14:30 - 17:00):
- Opening of the meeting by the representatives of: (Ms. Farah Bouqartacha, MTEDD), Sahel and Sahara Observatory (OSS), French Development Agency (AFD);
- Presentation on ecosystem accounting: concept and basic principle (COPERNICEA project/ Ms. Fatou Ndey Mar (remote) and Mr. Mohammed Maktit);
- Presentation of the AFRIK'ENCA platform on satellite ecosystem accounts at continental and regional levels (Mr. Thierry Tabsoba; Ms. Abir Ben Romdane: remotely);
- Presentation of the database and metadata for the creation of the first national carbon and water accounts (Mr Maktit/ Mrs Raquel Rodriguez BET Biotope).
- Debate session: how to deploy ecosystem accounting to guide decision-making and establish programs for ecosystem restoration and the development of
ecosystem services.
