Within the framework of Moroccan-German cooperation, the Department of the Environment implemented the project “Ecosystem Services in Morocco” (SES), whose objective is the integration of the value of biological diversity and ecosystem services into sectoral planning and policies.

The duration of the project is 4 years with a budget of 4 Million Euro, funded within the framework of the International Climate Initiative (IKI).

Project Outputs:

Output 1: The capacities of public and private sector actors and civil society for the economic valuation of biodiversity and ecosystem services are strengthened through participatory processes, studies, continuing education, training, knowledge management and communication;

Output 2: The socio-economic value of biological diversity and ecosystem services, as well as their contribution to climate change adaptation, are taken into account in an exemplary manner in sectoral and regional planning processes and in policy decisions;

Output 3: Economic incentive systems and cooperation mechanisms aimed at the protection and sustainable use of ecosystems and the consolidation of their contribution to improving resilience to climate change as well as promoting employment have been developed and implemented in pilot projects with the participation of the private sector.

Output 4: The institutional framework for the sustainable use of biological diversity and the valorization of ecosystem services is strengthened.
