The site of Azrou Akechar is marked by hills and rocky bars in the Eastern Rif culminating at 2000 m with a cool sub-humid Mesomediteranean bioclimate.
The flora of this SIBE is mainly composed of dry green oak forest with a station of maritime mountain pine: Pinus pinaster var. maghrebiana: a source of maritime pine from the Eastern Rif with some endemic floristic elements. For wildlife, 5 species of mammals have been encountered within the limits of the site under consideration and 7 in its immediate surroundings, for a total of 12 species known at present for the entire region. In addition, 6 species whose presence is probable are to be sought. The Cuvier's Gazelle, Gazella cuvieri, (Sah.), was still reported in the region until 1983 by foresters (Brigade de Chasse de Nador). Outside the reforestation perimeters, the ecosystem is very unbalanced, with an absence of regeneration and a simplified architecture.
